WR Node SPEC A7

Current version 1.0
White Rabbit
Open-Source

The White Rabbit Node: SPEC-A7 is a PCIe board, designed for deterministic, low-jitter communication in time-critical systems. Paired with the LiteX White Rabbit NIC firmware, it enables sub-nanosecond synchronization and hardware-level packet timestamping (PMT).

Key features:

  • White Rabbit PTP Core: provides ultra-precise time synchronization based on the White Rabbit protocol.
  • PMT (Precise Message Timestamping): timestamps Ethernet packets and digital I/O events using WR-synchronised UTC, enabling nanosecond-accurate event logging and triggering.
  • Low-jitter clock distribution ensures deterministic timing behaviour across the system.
  • Digital I/O (DIO): allows timestamped input capture and scheduled output pulse generation.
  • PCIe DMA interface for fast host–FPGA data exchange.

This module can be used in:

  • 5G networks (including mmWave),
  • Quantum communication (QKD)
  • Quantum Internet systems
  • Server rooms and data centres
  • Control and measurement systems
  • Radar systems
  • Surveillance systems
  • Scientific instruments
  • Financial systems

Perfect for applications like time-sensitive networking, distributed data acquisition, and scientific instrumentation, where timing precision and low jitter are critical.
