multichannel frequency generation

Urukul is a 4 HP EEM card that works as a 4-channel wide range frequency synthesizer. It extends the capabilities of Kasli carrier card supported by ARTIQ.

It is able to generate frequencies with values from sub-Herz up to over 400 MHz. Depending on the variant 4410 and 4412 the frequency resolution is at the level of around 8 μHz and 0.25 Hz respectively. The frequency generation is based on the Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) algorithm at 1 GS/s internal clock realized by AD9910 and AD9912 developed by Analog Devices.

Except the precise frequency set, Urukul allows to control phase changes and amplitude control of generated signal.

Main features

  • 4-Channel outputs
  • 1 GS/s DDS
  • Output frequency range <1 Hz and >400 MHz
  • high frequency resolution (8 μHz or 0.25 Hz)
  • Phase offset resolution: 14 bit (AD9912), 16 bit (AD9910)
  • Nominal output power: 10 dBm
  • Digital amplitude (ASF) resolution: 14 bit (AD9910 only)
  • Custom filter in RF chain (default: low pass)
  • Digital step attenuator in range 0 to -31.5 dB (resolution 0.5 dB)
